The Millers Thumb has new owners!. Jerry and Cookie Brown who also own Cassie's Ice Cream next door and Norman Polston and Tina Makenzie who live in the little red house just up from the town hall on Craftsbury Road are as proud as can be to give such a beautiful and historic building another lease on life. We have a wonderful legacy to fulfill as we follow in the footsteps of Anne and Rob Brigham and the other owners before them who have worked so hard to give The Millers Thumb a regal reputation throughout the Kingdom.

Our first choice for the building is to create a cozy, comfortable eating, drinking and gathering place on the first floor. But there is a tough, nearly intractable problem with the existing septic system that needs to be solved before any food service would be possible. Many smart, creative prospective Thumb buyers have heretofore applied themselves to a search for solutions but without success. We are hoping that with maybe just a wee bit more luck, diligent research, generous community support and new advances in technology we will some day succeed. This effort may take a while and if you are one of the folks who agree that a good cup of coffee around a pot-bellied stove is a good idea, we beg your patience. The second floor offers many possibilities other than food service such as small office spaces, perhaps clothing retail, perhaps retail sales of crafts and products from the area, etc.

So, while we are working on the septic system, we would like to hear from those of you who know and love Greensboro; please offer us suggestions as to how we, you and the community at large can best use the spaces. Use this blog site to give us your ideas, join in a community discussion or just comment. If you would prefer a more private dialog please email us at www.themillersthumb@gmail.com.

  1. Congratulations - great idea - especially a gathering place with food right in the middle of town. How about an artist's cooperative upstairs? There are lots of artists in the area. Willie Smith
